American Idol, Season 10: Top 6 Results – “I may be good, but when I’m bad I’m even better.”

I’ll just be honest with you all this week – I’m exhausted.  I have a headache, I’m not in the best of moods, and my foot itches (okay – maybe that last bit was a little bit of TMI).  Suffice it to say, I don’t have a witty opening for my recap this week.  I’m saving what snark I have for the recap below.  I’ll just say this – tonight’s show had some musical performance, some filler, a little more filler, and then someone got eliminated.  Want more detail, and more snark, than that?  Then read on…

American Idol – My final thoughts on the Finale

Before I go through all of the performances from last night- – just let me say that I really enjoyed the show.  It struck the right balance between irreverence and respect.  Were all of the performances great?  No.  But, on balance, I thought it was a solid show.

I also want to congratulate Lee on his win.  He came a long way over the course of the season –and his voice, when recorded, was one of the better this year (live is another story…).  I’m anxious to see what kind of record he is allowed to make.  I also want to congratulate Crystal.  She came in as an independent musician and stayed that course.  More importantly, though, she had fun.  She was able to embrace the Idol experience and strike the right balance between making the most of it, and staying true to herself.  She proved that you CAN be an artist, with a strong sense of self, and not be consumed by the machine that is American Idol.  I hope she opens the door for more artists like her next year.

So, all in all, not the best year for Idol ever – but still not bad.  It came on stronger in the last few weeks and, as I’ve said before – I’m still watching.  I can’t wait to see what type of music Lee, Crystal, and Casey make (I’ll be sure to review their records once the come out).  For now, you can find my full review of each of the performances from last night after the jump.  Until next season, The Word Zombie out…

American Idol – and the winner is…

I have to say, that was one of the more entertaining “American Idol” finales in recent memory.  The music, for the most part, was good.  We got to see Alice Cooper, Joe Cocker, The BeeGees, Chicago, Christina Aguilera, Janet Jackson, Brett Michaels, Alanis Morrisette, and almost all of the former Idol winners (alas – no David Cook).  Simon was sent off in style, and even Paula made an appearance.  The cheesey comedy was kept to a minimum, and the focus was mostlly on the music.  That I can appreciate.

I can’t say that I’m surprised that Lee won.  The good news is – Lee, Crystal, and Casey will all likely be making records this summer – so the public can vote again this fall with their dollars.  I’ll have a full recap posted tomorrow.  For now – congrats to Lee Dewyse.  The Word Zombie out…

American Idol – Will it be Crystal or Lee?

Here we are folks – the last performance show of American Idol, Season 9.  It seems like only 4 months ago that we started this journey – ending tonight with the hopes and dreams of Crystal Bowersox and Lee Dewyze hanging in the balance – reliant upon the dialing skills and patience of TV watchers everywhere.  How was the show?  Well – let’s take a look.

American Idol: I may have found my “moment”

I said yesterday, and last week as well, that I have not been as emotional invested in the contestants this year on Idol. I wanted to have a “moment” last night and I didn’t. Well, tonight I finally felt that connection that I have been looking for all season. The funny thing was – it came in the elimination show, not the performance show. Who did I connect with? It might not be who you think.

American Idol: Still waiting for a “Moment”…

Only one week to go and, I have to say, I’m still waiting for the one big “Moment” from American Idol this season.  We are down to the top 3 and while I still watch the show each week, I can’t say that I’m nearly as invested in these contestants as I have been in the past.  That being said, we are still getting ready to crown this year’s winner, so there is at least a modicum of excitement in the air.  Who will it be – Lee, Crystal, or Casey? This…is my American Idol recap.

American Idol: Stumbling towards the finale…

Well, another week is in the books, as American Idol stumbles towards this year’s finale.  This week we had both solo performances and duets, Jamie Foxx trying desperately to seem half as relevant as Harry Connick Jr., more forced humor from Ellen, a triple feature of guest artists on the results show, and the end of the road for someone.  So who’s in the top 3?  Find out after the break.
